Call for papers: Emerging Female EU Law Scholars Workshop

One of the consequences of the current Covid-19 crisis is a stark decline of the number of female scholars’ publications. While the causes of this are complex, multiple and pre-date the current crisis, the current situation  will have a long lasting and detrimental effect on legal scholarship. Dealing with the decline of female scholars’ publications requires structural changes beyond academia. One way to address it in academia is by providing spaces where early-career female scholars--in particular scholars from ethnic and racial minorities--can get support from senior scholars and peers.

If you are interested in participating, please submit by Jan. 20th a document including a 500 word abstract of your paper (a chapter of your thesis or a draft article) as well as a 500 word text about yourself and about how this workshop could be beneficial to you at acelg@uva.nl. Indicate in the subject line “Emerging female EU law scholars workshop.” Up to five participants will be selected and notified by the end of January, and they will be expected to send a 10 page draft by Feb. 22nd.

We are particularly interested in the work of scholars using critical approaches to EU law, and in the work of scholars from academic institutions, European countries, and cultural backgrounds which tend to be not as well represented at EU & global conferences. Submission topics might include EU external relations, fundamental rights, discrimination or immigration law, or any other aspects of EU law.
