Challenges of Implementing Cybersecurity: The Perspective of the NIS2 Directive

On 13 March 2024, the Jantina Tammes School will host an activating workshop for all those interested in cybersecurity. It is entitled ‘Challenges of Implementing Cybersecurity: The Perspective of the NIS2 Directive’.

The cybersecurity framework of the European Union established in 2016 by the Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive underwent a significant revision with the enactment of the NIS2 Directive in 2023. This directive must be transposed by the EU Member States into national law by 17 October 2024 and they are currently in the process of implementing it. There are, however, numerous legal and technical problems in guaranteeing a high level of cybersecurity across the EU that will be explored during this event.

Given the ever-changing threat landscape in the domain of cyber, the NIS2 Directive builds on the first iteration broadening its scope of application. This updated legal act of the EU further strengthens cybersecurity of a large number of vital sectors that are highly dependent on the use of network and information systems in their operations and introduces new obligations for the entities falling under its scope. What is the current state of digital security in the EU in relation to critical infrastructures? What technical measures should be adopted to enhance it and how is this done in practice? What are the key legal hurdles that the EU Member States face in the implementation of the new cybersecurity framework? What could be the complexities of complying with it for organisations? These and other questions will be explored in this workshop with hands-on activities and lively discussions. You are welcome to join us!
